Equipment St. Vincent

In recent years, it kept running through my head to go retool the canyon of Saint Vincent. The main reasons – I think that inspired me – had the challenge of this action in the first place my interest in this canyon in my eyes is the most beautiful department. I added some spits here and there, change strings (including orange), Cord MC the big waterfall ... When I talked about me, secure people have supported me. Richard proposed to accompany me in our travels and Christophe could provide material via the CAF Perpi. The crucial choice was then to define our action. We wanted to keep the spirit of the canyon, pose of reliable and consistent materials to today's requirements and assist future canyoners who would carry out the descent without knowing.

When with my hammer I tested the resistance of some peaks, all doubts are gone for our action. The fear of the reactions of the Ayatollahs ter av is removed with the peak of the large slab C41. I wanted to see how sound a peak relay this cascade. First hammer, the peak spurted from its housing ... This peak was more deceptive : he had a look that seemed indestructible but the blade did not exceed 4 cm long and 2 thick. If he were to drop, jump to 41 m sure ... Similar experiences have occurred with other peaks and with spits : peaks that came almost at hand, short blades and hyper hyper fine not far from the foil or screw spits swelled to leave 3 mm diameter steel healthy as they seem “safe” appearance of. In this case, screw farted and we remained in the fingers. Many peaks and platelets were homemade, the diverted from their original use pitons or platelets becoming objects often makes us react and smile thinking about the ingenuity of their creators.

We have chosen to equip 12 mm, all stainless steel. All relays are linked because they are not susceptible to flooding or gels. It is not in either Oules, the Abalakovs not justified J.

Regarding the location of points, we followed the initial location that had chosen all our predecessors generally. The location selected was appropriate : flood out, seen on the obstacle, Accessibility ... We made changes as :

– the descent of C41 increased R & D spending in the RG for active

– to the output of the sequence Pif Paf, we added a relay out of the water as this waterfall can quickly boost

– addition of two rings platelets to C3 trap because if you withdraw the rope to the previous C8 could be ankle in the escalation

– Next in the sequence, RG was equipped to avoid a large friction

– the cascade Eric, is now going to pass on the right bank with a 40 m and the MC is more comfortable.

– the big waterfall to go with 40 m while maintaining the location of the relay 45 m (at the broken) View and above and below the obstacle.

We did not want to add handrails because friction is absent or mild and groups exceeding 7am could arrive quickly put 10 Although some local ... down in a little over two hours J. We added handrails relay easily accessible by high flow, the cascade Eric where I almost watch live accident (access sliding the relay could throw you at the bottom of the waterfall), and penultimate waterfall canyon that do not have. We doubled a wafer relays where we need to splice two ropes 40 m. The additional ring coupled to the relay also allows better management of the group, shift leader or bag for easy access to the relay for the following.

For the equipment itself, we had 4 days.

> Daytime 1 (Richard, Laurent, François): 8 September 2012

up the gear and 6 drilled ... electrical holes in the gneiss that is not ! When we realize that we can make three holes with a battery, we keep the second for a con relay place : inter cascade S. Soup grimace.

> Daytime 2 (Richard, Laurent, Jacky, raya of the CAF Perpi, François): 15 September 2013

to heat it rolls… until the 45th hole where the perforations are more hits. During descente, Rejo a new Lolo avec du groupe CAF who accompagne a new time claiming the new permettant new épaules.

Eric, BE an escalade Lyon, Rencontre dans le veille Llech the east partie.
> Daytime 4 (Richard, Julien, François, Yorrick, François): 1 September 2013

YES ! CHAUD PATATE ! Ça roule, le thermique à fond même sous l’eau, on peaufine l’équipement, fixe le matos, vire les loupés. Au dernier passage, it has encountered a problem expansion points in the big waterfall : le foret usé perçait des trous trop petits en diamètre. Or le phénomène avait débuté un peu avant = démontage et repose de points. Grrr !!! On finit à la frontale … mais sans frontale pour certains. Petit plaisir : on a shunté la marche d’approche…

Reste à poser les 4 last relay and turn the two points stripped to the big waterfall and a last little bit of clearing to finish this story.

Congratulations to all of us where we had fun (literally as well as figuratively) in this retooling and this adventure :

Lolo, Julien and François, Yorrick, Eric, Jacky and struck it Perpi and special dedication to Ricci was all parties… Tobal not forget that without him nothing would have been possible.

Good marrade.
